ANPR and Bluetooth Surveys
Global automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) is becoming one of the most reliable ways to monitor and track traffic movements. At RDS, we offer automatic number plate recognition products and services for a range of surveys and reporting, including:
Duration of stay in car parks
Rat runs – determining the number of vehicles that use a route between two points
Cordon survey – discovering which routes vehicles take around or through a town or village

We build our own cameras which are more accurate and more reliable than those currently on the market, and which use infra-red technology, allowing them to be used in the dark.
On average, 95% of number plates are successfully matched, and that average is maintained over a 24 hour period.
Surveys for distance and travel time from RDS
There is no better way to collect data about difficult journeys than actually driving from A to B. When you book one of our journey time surveys, we take a vehicle on the exact journey, using video or manual evidence to show driving distances and time, and exactly what happens at each stage.
We can undertake the same journey at different times of the day and also plot alternative routes that we can survey to give you comparative data.
The journey survey data is then clearly presented to you in an easy-to-understand spreadsheet so that you can see where problems occur and often why they happen.
Bluetooth surveys
We have designed and built our own devices that can be attached to lampposts, allowing us to measure the time taken between two points using Bluetooth and Wi-fi.
This technology is extremely reliable and captures valuable data at all times of day and night without needing personnel in place.
In addition, we use GPS data loggers which record the time, date, travelling speed, altitude and GPS location at pre-set or manually-chosen intervals. The collected data is exported so it can be viewed on Google Earth or Google Maps.
